Text 1
W: How long did you have to write your paper?
M: We were given 150 minutes, but I finished in less than half the time.
Text 2
M: Do you cook at home?
W: No, neither my husband nor I cook. We usually go out to restaurants.
M: Oh, I like cooking. My wife is good at cooking, too. I don’t like the food in restaurants.
Text 3
M: Hi, Linda, I want to know something about Canada. I heard that you once lived there.
W: Oh, I once lived in Australia and America when I was young, but not in Canada.
Text 4
M: Think it over carefully. You must have left it somewhere.
W: But the problem is that I have to have it now. I need it to drive home, and when I get home, to open the door.
Text 5
M: I have to pay the telephone bill this morning, and finish my paper by this afternoon.
W: Don’t worry. I asked Mary to pay the telephone bill for you. You just concentrate on your paper.
Text 6
W: Why don’t you sit down? Now, there are several questions I must ask you if you don’t mind.
M: Not at all. Go ahead.
W: What is the purpose of your visit to the United States?
M: I’m going to attend a conference on air pollution. It will be held in the first two weeks of May at the University of California.
W: The University of California?
M: Yes, here is the official letter of invitation.
W: I see. Fine. When do you want to go?
M: I’d like to leave in mid-April if my passport is ready by then.
W: That shouldn’t be difficult. Why don’t you phone me about April 10th? I should be able to give you an answer, then.
M: Thank you.
Text 7
W: Did you see the late night film on television yesterday?
M: The one on Channel 6?
W: No, on Channel 8. It was about a couple who hitch-hiked across the Sahara desert.
M: No, I didn’t. Was it any good?
W: Well, it was quite good, I suppose, but all those miles of sand did get a bit boring after a while. I think I prefer horror films to travel stories or love stories.
M: I went out for a meal with my friends. They took me to a Greek restaurant.
W: Sounds unusual! What was the food like?
M: Actually, I quite liked it.
W: I’m not keen on foreign food myself. I’d rather stick to roast beef or just fish and chips.
M: Yes. I notice you always eat chips! Don’t you ever get sick of chips?
W: No, never. In fact, I’d rather eat chips than bread.
M: Well, I prefer trying new food to eating the same old things day after day.
W: I see. So you won’t be coming to the café at lunchtime with me, then. You’d rather eat on your own, right?
M: Well,…
Text 8
W: Hey, Tom. Do you know what time it is?
M: Um, actually, I don’t.
W: It’s bedtime, Tom! You have to get up early for school tomorrow.
M: But it’s just 10:20…
W: So you do know what time it is!
M: Mum, this show is so fun! Just let me finish watching it.
W: No. You have to go to bed. It’s just a man in strange clothes playing the fool on TV. Don’t waste your time on a show like that.
M: I think he’s the second Chaplin…
W: Whatever, you have two choices. You either turn off the TV and go to bed yourself, or I pick you up and take you there.
M: Oh, mum, just give me ten more minutes. He’s so funny…
Text 9
W: Freedom Travel. How may I help you?
M: Yes, I’d like to make a flight reservation for 23rd of this month.
W: Ok. What is your destination?
M: Well, I’m flying to Helsinki, Finland.
W: OK. Let me check what flights are available. And when will you be returning?
M: Oh, well, I’d like to catch a return flight on 29th. Oh, and I’d like the cheapest flight available.
W: OK. Let me see. Um, hmm…
M: Yeah?
W: Well, the price for the flight is almost double the price you would pay if you leave the day before.
M: Oh, let’s go with the cheaper flight. By the way, how much is it?
W: It’s only $980.
M: Alright. Well, let’s go with that.
W: OK. That’s flight 1070 from Salt Lake City to New York, Kennedy Airport, changing to flight 90 from Kenney to Helsinki.
M: And what are the departure and arrival times for each of those flights?
W: It leaves Salt Lake City at 10:00 am, arriving in New York at 4:35 pm, then changing to flight 90 at 5:55 pm, and arriving in Helsinki at 8:30 am the next day.
M: Alright. And, uh, I’d like to request a meal without meat.
W: Sure, no problem.
Text 10
Good morning, everyone. Welcome to the new Sea Life Center at Plymouth. The Sea Life Center is a really exciting place. There are so many things to see here.
Everything is enjoyable. It costs $3.70 for grown-ups,$2 for children and less for over sixties and school groups. It’s open from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm every day except the 25th and 26th of December.
Special attractions include hourly feeding times for all the different animals and fish, and shows in the sea theatre. Someone is always there to answer questions about what you’ve seen. If you are in a group of six or more people, we can give you a special guided tour of the center. But you need to talk with someone at the information desk when you arrive.
The latest attraction is a big glass tunnel you can walk through. All around you, you will see fish swimming –something even over your head. You certainly have the clearest view of the undersea world. Children love it and it’s really amazing for grown-ups, too. When you get hungry, there is a relaxing family dining room serving food. 高考英语模拟试题库  http://www.17xuexiba.com/yy/
